How are points Earned?

The following is the point system that will be used for all divisions for 2024 Show Season. 

Amount of Points are determined by the Number of Exhibitors for 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th
3* exhibitors up to 5 exhibitors= 10, 6, 4, 2, 1, .5
6 exhibitors up to 9 exhibitors earn 1 extra point= 11, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1.5
10 exhibitors or higher earn 2 extra points= 12, 8, 6, 4, 3, 2.5

Champion= 10 points and Reserve Champion=6 points

How are Champion and Reserve Champion determined?

In a Division with flat classes only, the Rider or Animal with the most points earns Division Champion, and the Rider or Animal with the second most points earns Division Reserve Champion. In the case of a tie, Barn Management and the Riders may either use a coin toss, or a judged hack-off to determine the Champion and/or Reserve Champion.

In a Division with over fences classes, only the top four (may be more in the case of a tie) point earners from the over fences classes are eligible for Champion and Reserve Champion. From those top four exhibitors, the Rider/Animal with the most overall points earns Champion,and the Rider/Animal with the second most points earns Division Reserve Champion. In the case of a tie, total points in the over fences classes are used to break a tie amongst these competitors.

FREQUENT Point DISCREPANCIES explained: 

• Please note that divisions with four classes only accumulate points in the W/T/C and Over Fences classes. These divisions include Short Stirrup and Long Stirrup. The W/T class does not accumulate points.
• Riders and horses must have been registered and paid prior to accumulating points. Registration is not automatic. Registering with VHSA does not register you for GRHSA.
• The final show of the year, is the Classic, Only your TOP 10 Shows count for year end award.
